Ryan’s Top 5 Summer Sauv’s

For me summer is all about the ocean. Swimming at the beach, going out on the boat, eating seafood.

What better partner to fresh Seafood than Sauvignon Blanc. But Sauvignon Blanc can be so varied in flavour, so here’s my 5 picks for Summer.

Wither Hills Wairau Valley Sauvignon Blanc - $16.99

This Wairau Valley Sauvignon Blanc is everything you want from a Marlborough Sauv and more. Bright Crisp acidity, Pungent Melon aromas, Delicious tropical fruit flavours of Guava and Passionfruit, Lemon Peel finishing with a long supple finish.

I’d match this with fresh pan seared Scallops, covered in freshly squeezed lemon.

The Ned Sauvignon Blanc  Waihopai Valley$15.99

Marlborough has so much to offer and the signature minerality of the Waihopai valley is one of them. The Ned Sauvignon Blanc offers great passionfruit, lime zest and pink grapefruit through the aromas and palate.

The palate also offers tropical tinged, citrus based characters with its bright acidity adding structure and length.

I’d match this with Salmon served with an apple and walnut salad.

Graham Norton Sauvignon Blanc - $19.99

Graham loves his Invivo Sauvignon Blanc so much that he agreed to get his feet dirty and help make some! Blended by Graham himself he has created a Sauvignon Blanc that represents NZ Sauv.

This sauv is filled with gorgeous passionfruit, nectarine, feijoa and lime zest flavours. Widely appealing and huge refreshing taste.

I’d match this with good friends on the beach, Tarakihi and hot chips.

Mt Difficulty Sauvignon Blanc Central Otago - $24.99

It’d be a miss only to show off Marlborough as Central Otago will surprise you with its warmer climate flavours. A late ripening season has resulted in aromatics of lemongrass, savoury herbs and peach. With a richer palate, this weighty Sauv will allow you to explore greater flavour profiles long into the summer evening.

I’d match with Thai fish cakes with a warm chilli sauce.

Te Whare Ra - $24.99

This elegant Sauvignon Blanc from Te Whare Ra is one not to be over looked. The organic practices of this winery is reflected in the purity of flavour, ripe acidity and delicate flavour concentration in this stunning wine. This wine has great texture integrated with ripe tropical, basil and lime juice.

I’d match this with rich flavours of Crayfish in a garlic marinade
